WELCOME TO 3/4H
Our teacher is Mrs Linda Hieke
This is our wonderful class:
We have two class rules: 1.Get along with all teachers and students. 2.Always do your best work.

HOMEWORK: comes home every Monday and is to be returned every Friday. It consists of spelling words to be written every night ready for a test on Friday, a quick English based activity related to our work we are doing in class and Passage Reading. A separate maths homework sheet will also come home on Monday to be returned on Friday. This sheet will be revising the work we have done in class during the previous weeks. As part of our whole school Talking and Listening Policy there will be one Oral Presentation task set each term to be presented in class and the mark will go towards the final overall assessment in Talking and Listening.
HOME READING: will begin in Week 5. Your child will bring home a home reader that is at their instructional level or they can choose to read a book from home. They are to read every night and parents sign one box per night on their blue card. For every 100 points of reading students receive an award at assembly and at 1000 points they receive a book prize.
Home Readers should be returned every WEDNESDAY ready for changing.
LIBRARY: Our library day is TUESDAY and all students should bring a material library bag to school on this day ready for borrowing. Mrs Lee is our school librarian and she loves children borrowing books!
GUIDED READING AFTERNOON: Every Wednesday afternoon from 2:30 – 3:10 we will be having Guided Reading Groups. We need parent helpers to come and listen to a small group of students read. Helpers don’t need to come every Wednesday just on weeks that suit you.
BOOK PACKS: Please ensure your child’s books are covered in contact as soon as possible and returned to school. Labelling all other equipment with names is also advisable. A few other items your child will need are:
· Paint shirt, to be kept in a plastic bag.
· Box of tissues.
· Antiseptic Wipes or Pump Bottle of Hand Sanitizer for hand washing
· Library bag.
· Book of personal interest for DEAR reading time (replaced when needed)
UNITS OF WORK: This year we will be learning about Local Government, Discovery of Australia, Early Settlement in the Maitland area and Famous Australians. We will be also studying Australian Animals and the Human Body. We will be learning to write more detailed Descriptions, Narratives, Information Reports, Explanations, Procedures, Expositions and Discussions. We will get faster at recalling our times tables and applying them to division. We will complete lots of problem solving activities in maths and incorporate technology into all areas of our learning.
NAPLAN DATES: Year 3 students in 3/4H will sit for the “National Assessment Program Literacy And Numeracy” test in May this year. The tests go over three days from 11th – 13th May.
TEACHER RELEASE TIME: My release time this year will be Thursday from 2:00-3:10. If you have any concerns or questions this is the best time to come and see me. Just ring the office or write me a note to organise a time first, as this is also a time when I have other meetings. Parent/Teacher interviews will be held at the end of Term 2 so we can hand out Semester One reports and discuss your child’s progress.
