 Technology

Technology in education has become a strong focus within Maitland Public School. The school has a wide variety of educational devices that it uses in different areas of the school. Mrs Melissa Anderson coordinates the entire school technology program.

All Stage 3 classes are Technology Classes. This means that each class has 7 computer workstations for the students who are grouped around them. The teacher has a laptop, a data projector and capabilities to print to a photocopier. The class's curriculum is modified to integrate technology into lessons where it is appropriate, applicable and educational. The class uses the Windows platform on all computers and utilises the main components of the Windows interface system, Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Picture Manager and Internet Explorer. Students are able to research on the Internet and show their findings through technology publishing programs.
All classrooms have data projectors. The teachers use these to present lessons and resources, as well as have students present their findings through them. They are an excellent educational resource.
The school uses Stu Hasic's EduWeb system to publish students' work on an Intranet system throughout the school. The utility gives all students practice and skills for designing webpages using FrontPage.
WebQuests

The school has teachers who are creating WebQuests. A Webquest is an online research module that students can access from home through the Internet and then complete.
The following WebQuests are available to be accessed.
  • Comic Art- The webquest analyses the value and development of art, in particular comic art. This is complimented by a variety of activities that aim to assist in the student's understanding and appreciation of art.
  • Critic's choice- Discusses scary statistics of people smoking at a young age and how a better education reduces their likeliness to smoke. Additionally, there are activities provided to examine the dangers of smoking and marketing techniques.
  •  Eureka- Asks the students to research Australia's only armed uprising, create a timeline and create a presentation.
  • Member of Parliament- Explains how each electorate has a representative that they elect to make decisions for them. This webquest encourages students to build their knowledge of Parliament and study important personalities of our time.
