Lifeskills Economy

The Lifeskills Economy aims at providing children with situations and responsibilities that will prepare them to operate functionally with real world capabilities. Each child who enters into the economy can earn ‘Mutuals', which is the currency that is used with one 'Mutual' being worth one cent. They can earn 'Mutuals' by bringing in used cans, bottles, plastic containers, and other such refuse that is easily attained around the home. These objects are all then properly recycled and the child has done a good job for the environment, and earned a few ‘Mutuals’ along the way. This money can then be used to bid on fun items that are auctioned off every Friday at the assembly. The money can also be saved up and spent on our annual Market Day where children are encouraged to become merchants for a day and host stalls where goods and services can be obtained with said money.

Mr Mark Cridland runs the school’s Lifeskills Economy. To also aid in the running of such a grand scheme, children can apply for jobs in the economy such as Can Crusher, Tank Technician, Bank Officer, Secretary, Shop Assistant, CEO, Director of Supply, Treasurer or a few other small director positions. The Lifeskills Economy attempts to reflect aspects of the "real world" at the child's level in the context of the school setting.
