Cancer ResearchHCC - Fruit & Vegetable Research Trial - The Cancer Council has launched a community nutrition initiative aimed at increasing fruit and vegetable intake among parents of primary school aged children in the Hunter. The program is called Eat It To Beat It. If successful, this program will be rolled out to other Cancer Council Regions across NSW. To build the evidence base, Cancer Council will conduct a research trial on the sessions (called Fruit ‘n’ Veg $ense) in Term 2, 2009 and need 230 parents to attend the sessions. The sessions run for 90 mins and are free of charge. The sessions will be held at primary schools and community centres across the Hunter region. The sessions include activities for saving on everyday recipes, putting budgeting ideas into practice and healthy tips and facts about fruit and vegetables. Participants will also discover how to get value for money and leave with handy resources and recipes for use at home. Cancer Council is asking Hunter Primary schools to include a short piece in their school newsletter to attract parents to the trial. This information is available in electronic format.
