Swimming CarnivalThis Thursday 5 February the school swimming carnival will be held at Maitland Pool. The Department of Education has introduced new safety procedures for when students participate in swimming activities. These procedures have been introduced after recommendations were given by the state coroner as an outcome of an investigation into the drowning of a young student at a school swimming activity day. During the carnival all students will be given a 20 minute period of free time. We need to know the swimming ability of each student so that students can be assigned to the appropriate pool. Students will be closely supervised during the free time swim. Those students who can swim 50 metres will be given a green wrist band, those who can swim 25 metres a yellow wrist band and non-swimmers a red band. All students must return the note that has been sent home today. Any student who does not return the note will not be allowed to participate in swimming activities on Thursday. If any student loses their note it can be downloaded from the school’s web site (click here) and copies will be available from the office. We are also looking for parents to help out on the day with timing and other jobs, particularly if you have a bronze medallion, AUSTSWIM certification or a surf life saving certificate. If you are able to help for all or part of the day please fill out the attached form and return it to Mr Cridland. |
